Maha Bodhi Society of India Celebrates 161st Birth Anniversary of Founder Bodhisattava Anagarika Dharmapala

The Maha Bodhi Society of India celebrated the 161st Birth Anniversary of its revered founder, Bodhisattva Anagarika Dharmapala, on 17th September 2025 at its headquarters and centres across India.

On this occasion, the Society fondly remembered its founder and his remarkable legacy. As in previous years, the Bodh Gaya Centre of the Maha Bodhi Society of India organised an inter-school competition, which saw enthusiastic participation from schools in and around Bodh Gaya.

Anagarika Dharmapala, one of the greatest Buddhist reformers of modern times, dedicated his life to the revival and spread of Buddhism worldwide. He played a pioneering role in the restoration and protection of Buddhist sacred sites in India, most notably the Mahabodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya, the place where Lord Buddha attained Enlightenment. His untiring efforts ensured that these holy sites were preserved as centres of pilgrimage and spiritual inspiration for generations to come.
